Pettistree Village Hall

Restoration and Refurbishment

The committee are delighted to be able to announce that they have been awarded a grant of £10,000 from the Awards for All - Big Lottery Fund towards the Energy Conservation and Renovation Project for the Village Hall.

This grant together with the grant from the Ganzoni Trust and funds collected over the years from various events held by the Committee and generously supported by residents and friends, will pay for the work to be carried out over the coming months.

The work will begin week commencing 17th October, stripping out the ceilings and walls to enable the insertion of insulation.   The next stage will be taking up the wooden floor in the main body of the hall and repairing the supporting timbers, inserting insulation and putting down a new oak floor. The third stage will be working on the kitchen, which after the insulation work will need a new floor and kitchen units.

It is a large project and obviously there will be some disruption to bookings, we are trying to work round existing bookings, but please check with Pauline Jarvie if you are unsure of the closure dates. We have also had to postpone until next year the Race Night originally planned for Friday 23rd September and the Pub games, on Friday 28th October.

The Committee apologise for any inconvenience caused during the coming months but are sure that you will agree that the benefits will outweigh the trouble caused. It is very important that the hall is maintained after all the hard work carried out previously by members of the committee, past and present, who accepted the challenge of updating the hut donated by the WI and providing us with the lovely hall that we have today.

We look forward to the completion of the work and enjoying many more functions in the hall in the future.

The Hall

Photo of Village Hall exteriorPettistree Village Hall is situated on the northern outskirts of the village in Walnuts Lane. It was built in 1928 after ten years of fund raising by the Women's Institute.

At the Annual General Meeting held on held on Tuesday 12th July 2011 the committee were re-elected en bloc.

Because the Hall is situated in a conservation area it has retained its original hut like exterior of galvanised cladding. By 1992 maintenance was becoming too costly so the WI offered the building to the village for community use. After much fund raising from activities and grants the Hall was refurbished internally with a new fitted kitchen and ladies and gents toilets all with disabled facilities. A further addition has recently been built which allows a more flexible use of the main hall This provides a storage area, the possibility of a bar, or a space for live music as well as a place for refreshments.

The Hall has charitable status and is looked after by a Management Committee with up to twelve members with additional representatives from other organisations in the village.
